ROLE OVERVIEW
The Packaging Artisan plays a crucial role in maintaining, repairing, and optimizing high-speed packaging machinery and related devices. This position ensures operational efficiency, plant availability, and product quality while minimizing costs and downtime. The ideal candidate is a Trade Tested Mechanical Artisan with proven experience in fast-paced FMCG environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on plant equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
-
Repair and service packaging machinery in accordance with AB InBev’s standard work instructions.
-
Execute maintenance tasks in a safe, risk-free manner aligned with the company’s health and safety protocols.
-
Conduct root cause analyses and apply problem-solving tools (such as 5 Whys and fishbone diagrams) to eliminate recurring issues.
-
Use electronic devices (e.g., tablets, laptops) for logging, tracking, and communicating maintenance activities.
-
Support continuous improvement by training and mentoring operators on 5S and Autonomous Operation (ATO) principles.
-
Identify and tag non-standard work or defects, and escalate unresolved issues through appropriate channels.

Determine spare part requirements using the SAP system and ensure timely ordering to avoid production delays.

Reduce machine downtime and wastage by implementing permanent corrective solutions.
KEY ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES

Strong ability to work independently and manage time effectively without supervision.

High attention to detail and mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting complex systems.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Data-driven mindset with the ability to interpret graphs, trends, and operational KPIs to boost machine performance.

Solid understanding of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Trade Tested Mechanical Artisan qualification (Fitter, Turner, or Millwright advantageous).

Proven experience working on FMCG high-speed packaging machines.

Deep understanding of maintenance processes and production equipment reliability.

Demonstrated ability to transfer technical knowledge to operations teams to enhance their skills and awareness.
