Role Overview

Merchants Recruitment is currently seeking enthusiastic individuals to join their Customer Service team as Customer Service Agents in Randburg, Gauteng. This internship opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about customer satisfaction and enjoy engaging with people to solve problems.

As a Customer Service Agent, you will act as a key brand ambassador, representing clients with professionalism, care, and dedication. You’ll serve as the first point of contact for customer queries, ensuring timely and accurate resolution while maintaining a high standard of customer care.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle inbound and/or outbound customer calls efficiently and courteously

• Respond to customer inquiries regarding products, services, or account information

• Assist customers with complaints, claims, and other service-related issues

• Process required documentation accurately, maintaining confidentiality

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of client products and service procedures

• Escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate department where necessary

• Follow call handling procedures and meet defined customer service targets

Minimum Requirements

• Matric Certificate or NQF Level 4 qualification (compulsory)

• At least 6 months of experience in a customer service environment

• Proficient in English (both written and spoken)

• Computer literacy, with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment

• Typing speed of at least 25 words per minute

• Good telephone etiquette and problem-solving ability

Preferred Experience

• 12 months or more of experience in a contact centre or call centre environment

• Exposure to working in a structured BPO or customer-centric environment

• Familiarity with CRM tools and call tracking systems

Skills and Competencies

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• High level of professionalism and empathy when dealing with customers

• Strong attention to detail and time management

• Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks

• Self-motivated with a strong sense of accountability

• Flexible and adaptable to working in rotational shifts, including weekends and holidays
