About the Company

SANParks, the national body overseeing conservation areas across South Africa, is offering an opportunity to contribute to the upkeep and preservation of Agulhas National Park, a vital ecological region. These General Worker positions are part of SANParks’ commitment to maintaining high environmental and operational standards across all its parks.

Note: These are fixed-term roles until March 2028. Successful candidates must provide their own accommodation, as there is no staff housing available in the park.

Role Overview

The three General Worker roles involve a broad range of duties from cleaning to light maintenance. You will support daily operational needs by ensuring that facilities, terrain, and infrastructure are safe, clean, and functioning efficiently. Reporting to the Duty Manager, your work will contribute directly to the visitor experience and environmental integrity of the park.

Key Responsibilities

Perform general cleaning and housekeeping duties, including ablutions, office spaces, visitor areas, and accommodation
Clean fireplaces, braai areas, and remove rubbish from public and staff facilities
Maintain gardens and terrain, including mowing and landscaping
Conduct minor repairs and general maintenance on buildings, roads, and park infrastructure
Clean and care for tools, equipment, and vehicles
Report all maintenance issues in the official logbook
Follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and procedures at all times
Assist with various ad hoc tasks as instructed by the supervisor

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric) or NCV Level 4 certificate
Previous cleaning, housekeeping, or general maintenance experience is advantageous
Basic understanding of storeroom management and maintenance operations
Physically fit and able to perform duties that require lifting, bending, and long periods of standing
Strong work ethic, self-discipline, and reliability
Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
First Aid knowledge is an added advantage
Willingness to work weekends and public holidays
A valid driver’s licence will be considered an asset
