Role Overview
As a Professional Bus Driver, you will be responsible for operating a bus safely to transport passengers between destinations along designated routes. Your primary responsibility will be ensuring the safety of all passengers while maintaining adherence to traffic regulations, Unitrans’ operational protocols, and customer expectations. This is a restricted commercial contract, not subsidized by the government, requiring high standards of driving, discipline, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities

Operate buses on established routes while observing all traffic laws and safety guidelines.

Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any defects or deviations.

Maintain accurate trip logs, complete documentation, and ensure compliance with all Unitrans policies.

Follow the customer’s Site Management System (SMS) policy and safety regulations.

Register passengers on trips, ensuring accurate headcounts and safe boarding procedures.

Participate in DSS safety briefings, site-specific training, and toolbox talks.

Ensure the cleanliness and fuel status of the bus before and after trips.

Avoid unauthorized route changes or unscheduled stops, unless instructed by management.

Use wheel chocks after parking, remove keys from ignition when leaving the vehicle, and always wear a seatbelt.

Report all incidents, near misses, and equipment damage promptly to your supervisor.

Maintain a professional and respectful attitude toward passengers and clients at all times.
Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 / National Certificate (Matric) is required.

Valid driver’s license in the following categories: CE – G, CE – PG, or C – G.

Possession of a valid Public Driving Permit (PrDP) is mandatory.

At least 5 years’ experience as a professional bus driver in a similar role.

Job-specific training in defensive and preventive driving techniques.

Sound understanding of road safety, traffic laws, and risk mitigation strategies.
Skills and Competencies

Mastery of safe driving practices and preventive driving.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong understanding of Unitrans’ HST policies, code of conduct, and transport regulations.

Ability to follow strict schedules and coordinate effectively with dispatch and management teams.

Attention to detail in completing logbooks, inspection reports, and documentation.
