Role Overview
RCL Foods is offering a career-launching opportunity for graduates with a strong interest in food science and research to join its Management Trainee Programme in Research & Development based in Pretoria West, Gauteng. This initiative is designed for graduates with a BSc Degree or Honours in Food Science who are committed to driving innovation and contributing to the development of future-ready food solutions.
The programme blends theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, equipping trainees with the skills and experience necessary to succeed in R&D roles. As a Management Trainee, you will work on key innovation projects and gain exposure to the full lifecycle of food product development—from concept to commercialization.
Key Responsibilities

Participate in research and development projects for new product innovation and improvement

Assist in the formulation and testing of recipes in RCL Foods’ development kitchens and pilot plants

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Quality Assurance, Production, and Marketing
-
Support technical documentation, data analysis, and product evaluation
-
Work on projects related to shelf-life testing, ingredient sourcing, and sensory evaluation
-
Receive structured mentorship and professional development aligned with R&D best practices

Travel to various sites and be willing to relocate for exposure to different production environments
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Completed or in the final year of study for one of the following:

BSc Food Science

BSc Honours in Food Science

South African citizenship or permanent residency

Strong academic performance in core subjects during 2nd and 3rd years

Computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

A valid South African driver’s license is preferred
