Role Overview
Absa Bank is currently seeking a Junior Data Scientist to join its high-performing data team in Johannesburg. This hybrid role allows for flexible working while maintaining critical in-office collaboration. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated analytical thinker who is passionate about data and its ability to drive key business decisions.
The role is perfect for someone with a strong foundation in data analytics, data engineering, and visualisation tools. You will work directly with stakeholders across various business units to deliver data-driven insights that influence strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and understand data requirements

Design and build data solutions that align with business goals

Perform in-depth data analysis to uncover insights and trends

Build dashboards and visualisations to present analytical findings clearly

Maintain data quality by adhering to data management best practices

Use tools such as PySpark, SQL, and Databricks for data processing and analytics

Develop Power BI reports for stakeholder presentations

Participate in Agile ceremonies and use tools like Jira and GitHub for version control

Work on cross-functional projects involving marketing, finance, and product teams

Contribute to the creation of machine learning models and predictive analytics
Technical Requirements

Strong proficiency in Python, especially with PySpark

Advanced SQL capabilities for data querying and transformation

Hands-on experience with Databricks and Power BI

Familiarity with GitHub for version control and Jira for project tracking

Knowledge of cloud-based data infrastructure is an added advantage
