ROLE OVERVIEW
The Road Accident Fund is seeking to appoint a qualified Officer: Legal Administration on a 12-month fixed-term contract to support legal operations in its Governance Division based in Johannesburg. This role is crucial for processing documentation related to claims settlements, supporting legal arbitration processes, and managing legal reporting systems. The role demands a detail-oriented professional with legal document management expertise and a deep understanding of South African civil court procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
LEGAL ADMINISTRATION

Transcribe and proof-read legal documents used in settlement discussions

Maintain and update case file databases with directives and critical information

Retrieve case documentation and legal records as requested

Administer arbitration and legal dispute resolution processes

Coordinate the briefing of legal and medical experts in claims assessments

Facilitate hearing sessions and ensure evidence collection for claims proceedings

Secure all documentation and ensure timely delivery to appropriate stakeholders

Track outstanding legal tasks and maintain logs for claims-related decisions

Document all legal proceedings related to claim settlements and agreements
BLOCK SETTLEMENTS

Schedule and manage logistics for block settlement discussions

Oversee court documentation filing and ensure compliance with procedural requirements

Maintain court diaries and monitor case status and timelines

Interpret and provide clarity on claim offers during block settlements
REPORTING AND LEGAL SUPPORT

Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reports

Track legal administration performance metrics and milestones

Contribute insights to legal decision-making through comprehensive updates
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

Support professional engagement with internal and external legal stakeholders

Handle inquiries and information requests effectively and promptly

Maintain positive relationships with attorneys, medical professionals, and case managers
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor’s degree in Law or an equivalent qualification is required

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal administration or similar legal environment
TECHNICAL AND BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

Proven ability in dispute resolution, negotiation, and mediation

In-depth knowledge of South African legislation, including personal injury and third-party claims

Strong understanding of civil procedures in Magistrate, Regional, and High Courts

Skilled in planning, organizing, and managing sensitive legal tasks

Ethical conduct, sound decision-making, and a high level of personal accountability

Service-oriented approach with strong attention to detail and confidentiality
