Role Purpose
The Logistics Operations Manager will oversee all aspects of Sasol’s outbound logistics operations for own-fleet and third-party transporter vehicles across national storage facilities. This role includes scheduling, route planning, and product movement within the assigned portfolio, ensuring the efficient utilization of Sasol assets and external logistics resources while balancing speed, responsiveness, and cost-efficiency.
The incumbent will manage distribution activities for white products, heating fuels, and lubricants, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant execution of distribution plans. The role demands leadership in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, with responsibilities spanning operational management, compliance, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management

Lead compliance with legal, safety, and internal governance standards across the logistics portfolio

Drive business improvements in performance, compliance, and cost containment

Lead, coach, and develop distribution teams, ensuring competency in fleet and equipment operation

Establish and monitor performance criteria, ensuring operational targets and standards are met
-
Manage annual and long-term maintenance budgets, maintaining financial discipline
-
Optimize distribution efficiency and reduce downtime
-
Oversee inventory movement and mass balance reporting
-
Ensure timely submission of Proof of Deliveries (PODs) for customer billing
-
Identify and mitigate operational risks, maintaining a safe working environment
-
Liaise with technology license holders and participate in SHE and technology forums
-
Promote adherence to Sasol standards, procedures, and management of change processes
-
Cascade operational goals and foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration
-
Manage multi-level internal and external stakeholder relationships effectively

Maintain certifications including CAIA SQAS, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001
-
Ensure operational continuity plans are well understood and actionable in case of incidents
Service Provider Management

Draft and approve scopes of work for sourcing third-party logistics (3PL) service providers
-
Oversee commercial and procurement processes to ensure cost-effectiveness and policy compliance

Ensure safe execution of distribution activities by 3PL providers

Manage 3PL selection, oversight, and performance to meet quality and operational standards

Continuously improve distribution team productivity aligned with On-Time In Full (OTIF) principles

Facilitate SLA meetings and transporter forums to drive service provider engagement and performance
Additional Responsibilities

Communicate capacity planning and operational goals clearly to stakeholders

Lead effective risk management by identifying and mitigating hazards

Promote One Sasol behaviors supporting the larger value chain

Manage knowledge transfer and maintain documented processes for sustainability

Provide summarized, accurate reporting for senior management

Innovate and lead outbound logistics operations to maximize contribution to Sasol’s bottom line
Formal Education and Experience
-
University Bachelor’s Degree required
-
Post-Graduate Diploma or Master’s in Business Administration is desirable

Minimum of 9 years relevant experience in logistics, distribution, or supply chain management
