Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Store Manager to lead and support the daily operations of our Festival Mall retail outlet in Kempton Park. This role is ideal for a proactive leader who thrives in a dynamic retail environment, has a track record of meeting sales targets, and is passionate about team development and customer service excellence. You’ll report to the Store Manager and help ensure the business delivers against its operational and customer service objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive sales and revenue growth by delivering exceptional customer service and motivating the team

  • Ensure world-class store standards in line with merchandising and promotional strategies

  • Oversee stock receiving, stock counts, expiry monitoring, and general inventory control

  • Manage cash handling, including float preparation, banking, and cashier support

  • Coach and lead staff in line with Econo Foods’ HO HOLA values and service standards

  • Recruit, train, and develop high-performing teams

  • Monitor health, hygiene, and food safety standards across the store

  • Conduct sales data analysis to identify trends and actionable improvements

  • Maintain effective store operations, including opening, closing, and security procedures

  • Foster strong relationships with customers, vendors, and stakeholders

  • Minimise stock losses and operational risks through effective controls and policies

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 / Matric – Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in retail/business – Advantageous

  • 3–5 years of retail management experience, preferably in FMCG

  • Proven ability to meet and exceed sales targets

  • Strong understanding of store procedures, merchandising, and inventory control

  • Valid Driver’s License and ideally own vehicle

  • Exceptional communication skills – written and verbal in English

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities

  • High level of interpersonal and relationship-building skills

  • Energetic, confident, helpful, and customer-oriented

  • Highly organised and detail-driven with strong planning and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools

  • Displays business acumen and analytical thinking with data-driven decision-making
