As part of its ongoing expansion and operations at Bakubung Mine near Rustenburg, Murray & Roberts Cementation is now hiring a qualified and experienced Mine Overseer to lead production teams in one of the country’s most vital mining environments.

Role Overview

The Mine Overseer will be accountable for leading and supervising underground teams to achieve production, safety, and quality standards aligned with project deliverables. This critical role ensures efficient mining operations, legal compliance, and the consistent execution of the drilling and blasting cycle, service extensions, shaft sinking, and other underground activities.

Reporting directly to the Project Manager, this position requires strong leadership, a results-driven approach, and a deep understanding of underground mining operations, safety protocols, and stakeholder coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead underground crews to meet and exceed production targets

  • Plan and control mining operations, including ventilation, service extensions, and shaft sinking

  • Execute all duties in accordance with legal mining regulations (DMR, MHSA)

  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols to ensure zero-harm operations

  • Coordinate and manage subcontractor activities in the mining environment

  • Complete accurate and timely administrative reports as part of legal appointments

  • Oversee environmental, safety, and housekeeping standards across mining operations

  • Collaborate with safety departments on risk assessments and compliance initiatives

  • Contribute to innovation by exploring new mining methods that improve safety and efficiency

  • Maintain alignment with Murray & Roberts Cementation values, ethics, and performance culture

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Grade 12 Certificate or NQF Level 4 equivalent

  • Mine Overseer’s Certificate of Competency (Fiery Mines) – Mandatory

  • Valid Blasting Certificate (Fiery Mines)

  • Strata Control (Strata 3) Certificate

  • Valid EB Driver’s License

  • Valid First Aid Certificate (or willing to obtain during onboarding)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)

  • Strong leadership, planning, organising, and control capabilities

  • Sound understanding of mining regulations and operational best practices

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years post-certification experience as a Mine Overseer

  • Proven experience managing mining subcontractors in underground environments

  • Experience in shaft sinking, drop raise, and silo lining operations

  • Hands-on experience with unstable ground conditions, long anchors, wet Crete, and concrete work

  • Civil construction experience in mining will be advantageous

  • Sound knowledge of explosives and underground blasting procedures

  • Comprehensive understanding of underground mining and risk mitigation strategies
