Role Overview

The Emalahleni Local Municipality is urgently hiring 15 Junior Fire Fighters to join its Emergency Services team. Successful candidates will be responsible for executing fire suppression, rescue operations, hazardous materials responses, and various community protection initiatives. This is a dynamic and physically demanding role that plays a critical part in safeguarding residents and infrastructure.

As a Junior Fire Fighter, you’ll be on the frontlines of emergency response—whether responding to a building fire, motor vehicle accident, chemical spill, or natural disaster within the municipality’s jurisdiction.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Grade 12 (Matric Certificate)

  • Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 Certification

  • Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certification

  • Valid Code C1 Driver’s License

  • First Aid Level 3 Certification

  • Must be 18 years or older

Candidates who do not meet all the listed requirements will not be considered for the position. Preference will be given to those who reside within the Emalahleni Municipal area and who have operational experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency calls

  • Assist in fire suppression, rescue missions, hazardous material response, and accident scene control

  • Perform equipment checks and vehicle inspections daily

  • Maintain fire and rescue tools and ensure readiness for deployment at all times

  • Clean and service hydrants, vehicles, and fire station facilities

  • Participate in community outreach and fire safety education programs

  • Provide after-incident cleanup and support operations following fires or accidents
