Role Overview
The Fitter will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanical aspects of plant operations remain fully functional at all times. The role involves preventative maintenance, mechanical troubleshooting, fault detection, and full-cycle repairs of equipment in a high-volume production environment. You will play a vital part in minimizing downtime and optimizing plant performance in line with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Planned and Predictive Maintenance

Execute scheduled maintenance plans aligned with plant production cycles

Conduct equipment inspections and implement adjustments or repairs as needed

Complete job cards on time and maintain accurate maintenance records

Evaluate mechanical systems and identify potential hazards or performance issues

Ensure compliance with quality standards and safety procedures during maintenance operations
Installation and Mechanical Operations

Install and commission new plant machinery following safety guidelines

Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints to guide assembly and disassembly tasks

Dismantle faulty equipment and repair or replace defective components

Operate mechanical machines for tasks such as turning, drilling, milling, and grinding

Perform quality inspections before and after repairs or installations
Fault Detection and Emergency Repairs

Diagnose causes of breakdowns and respond with immediate solutions

Ensure rapid turnaround times for repairs to minimize production disruption
-
Support root cause analysis and implement preventive measures for future incidents
Health, Safety, and Compliance

Adhere strictly to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation

Promote a safe working environment and actively contribute to risk mitigation

Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately during all tasks

Report incidents and assist in continuous improvement of safety protocols
Governance and Standards

Work with integrity and within Tiger Brands’ compliance frameworks

Adhere to company policies including the Code of Ethics and Competition Law standards

Contribute to process improvement initiatives that align with operational goals
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
-
Matric (Grade 12) with a National Certificate: Mechanical Engineering – Fitting Level 3

Completed Mechanical Engineering Trade Test in Fitting

At least 3 years experience in a mechanical or industrial plant environment
Preferred Qualifications

National Certificate Level 4 in Mechanical Engineering

5+ years of relevant mechanical experience

Competence in fault diagnosis, advanced machine repair, and detailed engineering analysis

Computer literacy in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
