Job Purpose

The E40 Shop Assistant plays a pivotal role in the daily functioning of our Norkem store in Kempton Park. This is a hands-on position that involves a blend of customer service, cashier responsibilities, stock handling, and in-store presentation. This role suits individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and are committed to providing excellent service to every customer, every time.

As a Shop Assistant, you will be involved in multiple aspects of store operations and be expected to work efficiently and as part of a high-performing retail team.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Receiving and Off-loading
– Assist in receiving stock deliveries accurately and promptly
– Off-load and arrange items in appropriate store sections or storage facilities
– Maintain proper handling of fragile or perishable items

Cashier and Customer Transactions
– Operate the till, process purchases, and handle payments with accuracy
– Ensure that customer queries and requests are handled professionally
– Maintain a clean and organized cashier station

Merchandising and Store Presentation
– Stock shelves and fridges following store planograms and layout guidelines
– Monitor product freshness and shelf life
– Maintain appealing in-store displays to attract customers

Cleanliness and Housekeeping
– Regularly clean fridges, display shelves, and store floor
– Ensure safety and hygiene standards are maintained at all times
– Report any equipment faults or hazards to management immediately

Teamwork and Collaboration
– Support fellow team members to meet daily operational goals
– Communicate effectively with supervisors and peers
– Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist where needed

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications
– Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
– Fluency in English (both written and spoken)

Skills and Competencies
– Strong initiative and self-drive
– Ability to work effectively as part of a team
– Punctual, reliable, and consistent in performance
– Well-organized and detail-oriented
– Excellent verbal communication
– Energetic and able to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving stock
