Role Overview

The Counter Salesman position in Centurion plays a pivotal role in supporting walk-in customers, handling sales queries, and ensuring a seamless experience at the store’s front line. As the first point of contact for clients, the Counter Salesman must exhibit product knowledge, strong communication skills, and a service-driven mindset.

This role is suited to individuals with a background in retail, hardware, tools, or technical components. You will be expected to confidently guide customers in choosing the right solutions, process orders accurately, and manage follow-ups professionally.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist customers with enthusiasm and product knowledge

• Understand customer requirements and suggest appropriate product solutions

• Take orders accurately at the counter and ensure they are processed without delay

• Follow up on back orders and communicate updates to customers regularly

• Maintain an organized and appealing counter display at all times

• Provide prompt and professional responses to inquiries, including quotations

• Keep customers informed about stock availability and promotions

• Ensure satisfaction through excellent after-sales service and customer care

• Collaborate with warehouse and dispatch teams to meet order timelines

• Monitor quotation statuses and ensure effective follow-through for potential sales

• Display brochures, special offers, and marketing material at the counter

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate)

• Tertiary qualification in sales, electrical studies, or related fields will be an advantage

• Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in counter sales, retail, or customer service

• Experience in the electrical, hardware, or industrial component sector is highly preferred

Skills and Competencies

• Strong computer literacy and ability to operate point-of-sale systems

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Accuracy and attention to detail in order-taking and documentation

• Customer-first attitude with a focus on resolving issues professionally

• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple clients simultaneously

• Familiarity with stock control, quotations, and sales promotions
