📊 Role Overview
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing accounting processes for various business units within the Shared Services Centre. This includes compiling accurate monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, payment approvals, AFS preparation, and VAT/tax compliance in line with regulatory frameworks, legislation, and company policies. 📌 Key Responsibilities
🧾 Month-End and Financial Reporting

Approve vouchers and review accruals/provisions
-
Post revaluations of foreign currency balances
-
Process month-end journals with clear and precise narrations
-
Prepare and finalise monthly management accounts
-
Ensure all balance sheet items are accurately reconciled and aligned with sub-ledgers
💸 Tax, VAT & AFS
-
Calculate and prepare income tax and deferred tax entries
-
Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns and supporting documentation via SARS eFiling

Compile annual financial statements in line with IFRS
-
Ensure tax and compliance processes meet regulatory requirements
🏦 Banking and Payments

Review, release, and approve payments across multiple banking platforms (Nedbank, ABSA, Standard Bank)

Validate all payment supporting documentation

Monitor and reconcile intercompany accounts and resolve variances
🔍 Audit & Compliance
-
Respond to internal and external audit requests
-
Ensure strict adherence to financial policies and internal controls
-
Maintain clean and complete trial balances for all entities
🧮 Balance Sheet & Reconciliations

Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations
-
Ensure that reconciliations are complete, with outstanding items resolved within 30 days
-
Control financial period opening/closing schedules in accordance with financial calendars
🤝 Client and Internal Relationships

Build strong relationships with internal clients and stakeholders
-
Resolve escalated financial queries and disputes
-
Partner with unit accountants and finance managers to provide accurate reporting and insights

Participate in risk identification and propose remedial financial actions to leadership
🎓 Qualifications and Experience
Education:
-
Matric / Grade 12
-
BCom Degree with CTA (Honours)
-
Completed articles, preferably a newly qualified CA(SA)
Experience:
-
8+ years’ experience in a financial accounting and reporting environment

Strong knowledge of financial regulations, IFRS, VAT, and tax legislation

Experience with management accounts, AFS, and reconciliations
🧠 Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills:

Management accounts preparation

Advanced MS Excel and MS Office Suite

Proficiency in balance sheet reconciliations and journal processing

Knowledge of SARS systems, VAT submissions, and tax compliance

Familiarity with financial systems (e.g., IFS Financial module is an advantage)

Strong understanding of IFRS and accounting practices
