🏛️ About the Role

Standard Bank, Africa’s most prominent banking group, is seeking a Legal Advisor – Procurement to join its Johannesburg-based Group Legal team. This is a critical position that plays a central role in managing and advising on procurement and commercial contracts across the organisation.

As a Legal Advisor in Procurement, you will be responsible for guiding the legal and procurement teams in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements for products and services, while ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates. This is your opportunity to work within a high-impact team that delivers procurement strategies that drive the Bank’s commercial efficiency and mitigate legal risks.

📋 Key Responsibilities

• 🖊️ Contract Management: Draft, review, vet, and negotiate procurement contracts and service-level agreements with third-party vendors across various business units.

• 🛠️ Procurement Legal Support: Provide specialist legal advice related to procurement agreements, outsourcing, licensing, distribution, and commercial transactions.

• 📘 Compliance and Risk Oversight: Ensure all agreements adhere to relevant legislation, regulatory standards, and Standard Bank’s procurement policies.

• 🔄 Operational Support: Assist in aligning the Group’s legal and procurement strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce legal exposure.

• 🤝 Stakeholder Engagement: Partner closely with internal clients, external service providers, and legal teams to deliver strategic contracting solutions.

• 🔍 Risk Identification: Identify and mitigate potential legal and operational risks in procurement and vendor agreements.

• 🧠 People Development: Provide mentorship and leadership where applicable, guiding junior legal staff in procurement contract processes.

🎓 Minimum Qualifications

• 🎓 Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent First Degree in Legal Studies

• Admission as an Attorney is highly desirable

📆 Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5–7 years of post-qualification experience in a legal advisory role

• 2–4 years focused experience in procurement or commercial contract law

• Proven experience managing contract negotiations and legal risk

• Minimum 2 years of people management or mentorship in a legal environment
