⚙️ Role Overview
VKB Group is currently recruiting an Artisan Assistant to support workshop operations within the logistics department. This hands-on position is ideal for individuals with a mechanical background who are passionate about vehicle maintenance and repairs. You will assist qualified artisans in maintaining and servicing medium to heavy haulage vehicles in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
This opportunity offers the chance to gain exposure to a wide range of mechanical systems while working under experienced professionals in a fast-paced workshop environment.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities

Assist artisans during vehicle repairs and maintenance tasks

Inspect, test, and listen to engines or components to diagnose issues

Repair faults or replace broken vehicle parts using new or reconditioned components

Conduct routine maintenance checks (oil changes, battery tests, lubrication, etc.)

Adjust safety devices, tighten bolts, and perform general mechanical adjustments

Maintain accurate records of repairs, faults, and preventative checks

Support during breakdowns and emergency repair situations

Ensure all work complies with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) standards

Handle tools and workshop equipment safely and efficiently

Keep the work area, equipment, and protective clothing clean, organized, and compliant

Follow safety protocols to prevent damage to vehicles and components

Carry out duties as assigned by supervisors or workshop management
🎓 Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 certificate or NQF Level 4 equivalent
-
At least 5 years of experience in a similar assistant mechanic/artisan role

Solid knowledge of medium to heavy haulage engines
-
Valid Code 8 driver’s license required; Code 14 preferred

Must be physically fit, reliable, and able to work independently

Willingness to work long hours, including weekends when required

Self-motivated and able to perform under pressure without direct supervision
