🧾 Role Overview

Starke Ayres is seeking a friendly, reliable, and accurate Cashier to join our retail operations team in Rosebank, Cape Town on a fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all point-of-sale transactions are completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with company policies, while also delivering exceptional customer service at all times. 🛒 Key Responsibilities

🤝 Customer Interaction

• Engage with customers in a courteous, respectful, and helpful manner at all times

• Ensure a pleasant checkout experience, resolving any payment issues with professionalism

• Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a welcoming store atmosphere

💵 Cash Handling and Transactions

• Take full accountability for your cash float, ensuring it is balanced at the beginning and end of your shift

• Accurately process transactions involving cash, credit cards, debit cards, cheques, and gift vouchers

• Handle all payments according to company procedures, flagging any discrepancies to the Senior Cashier

• Maintain precise records of all financial activities at the till point

• Process all purchases under the correct codes and ensure accurate data capture for reporting

🧹 Housekeeping and Store Presentation

• Keep the cashier area clean, organized, and professional at all times

• Support the overall store presentation by assisting in tidying surrounding areas

• Wear the company-issued uniform and maintain a neat and presentable appearance

🧩 General Support Duties

• Assist in other administrative or operational tasks as requested by the Assistant Manager (Administration)

• Contribute to a team-oriented environment, stepping in to support co-workers during busy periods

• Act as an ambassador of the Starke Ayres brand, promoting goodwill and customer satisfaction

🎓 Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate (Compulsory)

• Previous experience in a cashier or point-of-sale role (Advantageous)

• Basic understanding of retail systems, customer service, and payment processing

• Comfortable working with numbers and under pressure during peak hours

• Excellent communication skills in English

• Strong sense of responsibility, honesty, and integrity

• High attention to detail and accuracy in handling cash
