🛍️ Role Overview

Starke Ayres is seeking a Trolley Assistant for a fixed-term contract position at their Sunningdale branch in Cape Town. This role is ideally suited for individuals who are reliable, physically active, and passionate about ensuring a clean, safe, and organized shopping environment for customers. The Trolley Assistant will play an important front-line support function by collecting and maintaining shopping trolleys across the facility, while also ensuring customer safety and convenience during busy periods, especially on weekends and public holidays.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

• Collect shopping trolleys from designated areas in the parking lot and return them promptly to their assigned trolley bays

• Ensure that trolleys are always readily available, neatly stacked, and accessible to customers at the store entrance

• Regularly inspect trolleys for wear and tear or damage and report any faults to supervisors for timely repair or replacement

• Maintain cleanliness of trolley bays, collection points, and surrounding walkways by removing litter or hazards

• Offer assistance to customers who may require help retrieving or returning trolleys, especially elderly or disabled shoppers

• Uphold company health and safety standards by maintaining clear walkways and minimizing obstruction risks

• Take reasonable care of the condition and movement of all trolleys to avoid injury, theft, or damage

• Report any safety issues or potential hazards in the parking lot or entrance area to store management

🎓 Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate is essential (if over the age of 16)

• Prior experience in a retail, logistics, or customer service role would be advantageous

• Good physical stamina and ability to work on foot for extended periods

• A helpful and courteous attitude toward customers and staff

• Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols

• Must be punctual, dependable, and maintain a professional appearance

Working Conditions

• Must be available to work at least 3 weekends per month

• Must be available to work on public holidays, as scheduled

• Must reside near the Sunningdale branch and have reliable transport

• This is a temporary, contract-based position focused on weekend and holiday shifts only
