📋 Role Overview
The Buyer I will be responsible for managing inventory records, maintaining accurate procurement documentation, and supporting purchasing activities that ensure timely delivery and cost-effective procurement. This role requires administrative precision, excellent communication, and a deep understanding of sourcing processes. You will play a critical role in supporting the business unit by coordinating purchase orders, tracking vendor performance, and contributing to effective financial and stock control systems.
🛒 Key Responsibilities
• Source goods and materials using the most cost-effective methods that align with operational requirements
• Maintain and update the company’s asset register daily
• Process and capture all purchase orders into the electronic system accurately
• Review purchase requisitions to ensure accuracy and completeness before processing
• Provide regular back-order reports on purchased stock
• Seek and evaluate new suppliers based on price, quality, availability, reliability, and technical support
• Maintain and review a preferred supplier list regularly, ensuring the best service and pricing options
• Monitor and track all supplier BEE ratings and scorecards in compliance with company procurement policies
• Follow up with vendors on the status of pending orders to ensure timely deliveries
• Receive all goods ordered and verify quality, quantity, and condition upon arrival
• Track market conditions and pricing trends to inform purchasing strategies
• Provide administrative support to the Finance Department and collaborate with the Storeman as needed
• Ensure all procurement activities align with internal policies and standards
✅ Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
• Grade 12 / Matric
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Purchasing, Supply Chain, or related field
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Strong attention to detail and high accuracy in data processing
• Ability to coordinate multiple procurement activities under tight deadlines
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
Preferred Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years in a similar procurement or buying role
• Familiarity with ERP or procurement systems
• Experience working in the agricultural, engineering, or supply chain sectors is advantageous
