Role Overview

Fraser Alexander is seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced General Engineering Supervisor to oversee the maintenance and performance of plant infrastructure and equipment at its operations in Mpumalanga. This permanent role is ideal for a seasoned professional with technical expertise in plant maintenance and strong leadership abilities. The successful candidate will ensure optimal operational efficiency through sound engineering practices, plant reliability, preventative maintenance, and stakeholder collaboration.

As a General Engineering Supervisor, you will manage both technical and human resources, ensure SHEQ compliance, oversee contract execution, and support continuous plant improvements through proactive troubleshooting and performance monitoring.


Key Responsibilities

Contract and Client Management

  • Interpret and implement engineering-related aspects of operational contracts.

  • Liaise directly with client representatives to address plant performance and engineering concerns.

  • Communicate regularly with clients and internal stakeholders to suggest improvements, coordinate repairs, and optimize site operations.

SHEQ Compliance

  • Implement Fraser Alexanderโ€™s health and safety policies in line with client requirements and the companyโ€™s internal SHEQ standards.

  • Ensure compliance with MHSA (Mine Health and Safety Act) procedures and contribute to a culture of zero harm.

  • Actively manage site safety, quality, and environmental aspects through regular inspections, audits, and corrective actions.

Plant Maintenance and Operations

  • Analyze plant performance data to identify barriers, delays, and deviations.

  • Develop, refine, and implement maintenance standards, procedures, and methods.

  • Oversee cost-effective maintenance and ensure that client and company assets are kept in safe working condition.

  • Lead the development and execution of a preventative maintenance program to enhance equipment availability and reduce unscheduled downtime.

  • Coordinate maintenance tasks to ensure they are planned, scheduled, executed, and monitored according to best engineering practices.

  • Conduct inspections of critical work and ensure all tasks are completed safely and to standard.

  • Manage critical spare parts inventory and track stock levels efficiently.

  • Provide expert-level technical support for repairs, diagnosing faults, and maintaining reliability of installed equipment.

  • Ensure Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) are carried out effectively and in accordance with established guidelines.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric.

  • N4 or equivalent in Engineering.

  • Trade Test (preferably MQA/MERSETA).

  • Supervisory or management qualification will be advantageous.


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or foreman role within a plant processing, crushing, and screening environment.

  • At least 2โ€“3 years hands-on experience as an artisan or engineering foreman (GES level).

  • High proficiency in MS Office and other maintenance management systems.

  • Ability to make timely decisions under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
