Role Overview
The Fruit & Veg Manager will oversee all operational aspects of the fresh produce department. This includes stock rotation, merchandising, food safety, staff supervision, and ensuring the profitability and performance of the department. The ideal candidate will have produce-specific experience, leadership capability, and a strong business mindset to maintain standards and drive sales.
Minimum Requirements

Matric (Grade 12) is required.

Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience running a sales-driven department.

Hands-on knowledge of fresh produce operations, including wrapping, packing, and merchandising.

Leadership experience in coaching, performance management, and compliance handling.

Key Responsibilities
🍎 Merchandising Management

Ensure produce is wrapped, packed, and displayed to company standards.

Identify and monitor fast-selling lines, stock levels, and restocking schedules.

Implement and oversee promotional activities based on the promotional calendar.
🧼 Food Safety & Hygiene

Monitor food safety and hygiene standards in the department.

Handle non-conformances swiftly with corrective actions.

Implement and supervise cleaning schedules and proper sanitation practices.
🛍️ Customer Service Management

Respond to customer queries and assist with out-of-stock product explanations.

Suggest replacement products and manage expectations for product availability.

Ensure customer interaction is consistent and professional.
👥 People Management

Supervise team members to maintain standards of safety, hygiene, and service.

Provide on-the-job coaching and address any performance or non-compliance issues.

Maintain positive team morale and a productive working environment.
