Role Overview
Tiger Brands is seeking an experienced SSHE Officer Assistant to support the Site Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Officer in identifying and minimizing job-related risks. The role involves assisting with the implementation of EHS policies, conducting internal audits, and supporting risk assessments to improve occupational health and safety practices. As an SSHE Officer Assistant, you will collaborate on MECP initiatives and play an important part in ensuring a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities
As an SSHE Officer Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Internal Audits: Participate in the planning and conducting of internal audits, specifically ISO 14001 and MARSH.

  • Incident Investigations: Assist in incident investigations and coordinate corrective action systems to ensure safety improvements.

  • Risk Assessments: Conduct continuous risk assessments for operational tasks to identify and mitigate hazards.

  • Contractor Observations: Coordinate contractor operational observations and audits to ensure safety compliance.

  • Compliance Monitoring: Drive the closure of safety-related observations (SRO) in collaboration with relevant unit managers.

  • Project Initiatives: Support MECP project initiatives and work with managers to improve safety standards.

  • Training Development: Develop training materials, including OPLs (One Point Lessons), to enhance communication and safety practices.

  • Performance Tracking: Assist in driving the PJO schedule and track corrective actions for identified gaps in performance.

  • Routine Meetings: Support safety-related routine meetings across different units to maintain a high standard of safety.

Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Academic Qualifications:

    • A diploma in safety, engineering, or environmental studies

    • Core Knowledge: Proficiency in data analysis, workplace safety, SHE systems auditing, contractor management, and risk assessment.

  • Key Competencies:

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to work under pressure and take initiative

    • Competence in report writing and multi-tasking

  • Experience:

    • A fresh graduate or 1 year of experience in the SSHE space (internal auditing, action plan development, and peer-to-peer coaching)

    • Previous experience in the manufacturing or FMCG industry is preferred.
