Role Overview:
BUCO Tokai is looking for a dynamic and results-driven Store Manager to lead its team in Tokai. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all store operations, driving profitability, and ensuring customer satisfaction. This role requires strong leadership, business acumen, and a solid understanding of procurement, stock control, financial management, and people development. It is ideal for someone with a proven track record in retail management and a passion for building materials and home improvement retail.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage Profitability and Growth:

Maximize sales turnover and returns by identifying new business opportunities

Generate and implement innovative ideas to increase market share

Take calculated risks to grow the store’s profitability
Planning and Budgeting:

Collaborate with the Operations Executive and Regional Operations Manager to develop and implement operational plans

Align store operations with business objectives and performance targets
Procurement, Stock Control, and Merchandising:
-
Ensure the store’s inward logistics run smoothly
-
Maintain optimal stock levels in accordance with procurement policies
-
Control stock losses and manage accurate stock movement
Maintain Stock Variances:
-
Monitor and adjust stock levels to minimize variances and discrepancies
Financial Management:

Compile and manage the store budget in line with operational plans
-
Ensure compliance with financial processes and internal controls
Customer Service and Brand Promotion:
-
Manage and resolve customer complaints effectively
-
Oversee promotional strategies and advertising activities to increase foot traffic and sales

Ensure all brand initiatives are aligned with company standards
Day-to-Day Operations:

Oversee sales, administration, and service activities

Ensure smooth operations and performance of all store departments
Operational Analysis and Reporting:

Analyze operational data to identify trends, successes, and problem areas

Collaborate with the Operations Support Team to address challenges
People Management:

Inspire and lead employees to meet store goals

Manage performance, training, recruitment, and disciplinary actions

Foster a positive, compliant, and productive workplace environment
Legislative Compliance and Governance:

Ensure store operations comply with legal requirements

Uphold corporate governance and health and safety standards
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
-
Grade 12 / Matric
-
Preferably a bachelor’s degree in commerce or equivalent experience
-
Financial or management diploma is advantageous
-
5–10 years of experience in the retail sector, with at least 3 years in a junior to mid-level management role

Prior experience in the building materials or hardware industry preferred
Key Skills and Competencies:

Strong financial acumen and budget management skills

Knowledge of inwards and outwards logistics and procurement processes

Sound understanding of merchandising principles

Leadership and team management

Operational planning and performance analysis

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is an advantage
