Role Overview
The HR Consultant is responsible for managing and implementing HR processes, projects, and activities throughout the employee lifecycle at a business unit level. This includes recruitment and selection, employee relations, performance consulting, data management, governance, and learning and development administration. You will provide consistent, sound HR advice and ensure the seamless delivery of HR services in alignment with company procedures, compliance standards, and Sun International’s values.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery of HR Operational Services

Understand and implement the people strategy to support business operations.

Partner with management to address performance, productivity, and other people challenges, offering practical solutions to improve people practices.

Facilitate recruitment and selection processes, including advertising, interviewing, reference checking, and appointments.

Oversee the onboarding process, ensuring new employees have a positive experience aligned with Sun International’s Employer Value Proposition (EVP).

Resolve payroll and benefits queries and disputes, working closely with management to address employee relations issues.

Proactively engage with stakeholders to understand the “pulse” of the business and communicate operational changes or challenges, ensuring timely resolution.

Promote and implement Sun International’s values and culture to improve employee engagement across the business unit.
HR Data Integrity & Reporting

Ensure accurate and timely data entry into the HR Information Management System, including employee personal details and employment changes.

Maintain employee files and track leave liabilities and sick leave balances.

Monitor and prepare reports on key HR processes, including employment equity and skills development, ensuring data accuracy for audits and reporting.

Capture and update training records and coordinate skills development data for BBBEE reporting.
Performance Consulting

Facilitate the performance management process and assist operators in addressing challenges or concerns related to performance.

Track performance results across the business, identifying trends and gaps in individual and team performance.

Collaborate with the Center of Excellence (COE) to provide learning solutions to address performance gaps.

Implement change management plans and transformation initiatives to improve performance and align with business goals.
HR Governance
-
Ensure compliance with HR processes and practices in line with labour legislation, BBBEE targets, Gaming Board regulations, and company policies.

Act as the custodian of HR processes and provide advice to operations on HR best practices.

Escalate concerns related to compliance and governance to HR management for resolution.
HR Project Implementation

Understand the objectives, benefits, and deadlines of HR projects and ensure successful delivery according to the project plan.

Coordinate project activities and communicate progress to stakeholders, resolving challenges as they arise.

Assist with scheduling and coordinating communication efforts to support organizational changes.

Provide feedback on project implementation and ensure compliance with change management processes.
Learning & Development Administration

Capture and update training events and records in the learning management system.

Coordinate compliance programs and logistical arrangements for facilitated learning sessions.

Track and report on skills development and learnership contracts for the business unit.
Stakeholder Engagement

Be responsive to daily HR-related queries, including policy, recruitment, performance management, and employee relations.

Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, providing guidance and advice on HR processes.

Build trusted relationships with learning providers and auditors to ensure effective delivery of training programs.
Requirements
Education
-
B. Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field.
Experience
-
A minimum of 5 years experience in HR, with at least 3 years in an HR Officer role.
Skills and Knowledge

Core Competencies: Planning, decision-making, evaluating HR competence, results orientation, relationship building, analytical thinking, managing risk, and motivating others.

HR Expertise: Knowledge of recruitment, learning and development, performance management, talent management, workforce planning, change management, and remuneration.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, PeopleSoft, and other HR software.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships.

Compliance: Knowledge of labour legislation and HR best practices.
