Role Overview
The Executive Housekeeper is responsible for overseeing all housekeeping operations within the hotel, ensuring the delivery of exceptional guest experiences. This includes managing the cleaning and maintenance of rooms, public areas, kitchens, back-of-house areas, as well as the management of linen, uniforms, and stock control. The role also entails creating and implementing efficient systems to ensure that all housekeeping operations align with both legislative and internal standards, thereby contributing to the overall quality and success of the property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Housekeeping Plan: Develop and implement a comprehensive housekeeping plan that aligns with unit strategy, including planning for public areas, kitchens, rooms, and back-of-house cleaning.

  • Shift Management: Oversee staff scheduling and allocations to ensure adequate coverage during peak times. Monitor and manage the performance and appearance of staff, ensuring that operational systems and equipment function efficiently.

  • Housekeeping Standards: Establish and enforce housekeeping standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with health, hygiene, safety, and environmental standards. Perform regular quality assurance checks and room inspections.

  • Customer Experience: Ensure that guest interactions are handled professionally and efficiently. Address and resolve guest complaints or special requests promptly, providing a personalized and memorable experience.

  • Vendor and Business Partner Management: Manage relationships with external suppliers and service providers, ensuring that service levels and contract deliverables are met.

  • Budget and Financial Management: Develop and manage the housekeeping budget, monitor operational costs, and ensure financial targets are achieved.

  • Staff Management and Training: Supervise, train, and mentor staff, ensuring that performance meets company standards. Facilitate ongoing development through on-the-job training and coaching.

  • Health and Safety Compliance: Conduct risk analyses and ensure that the housekeeping team complies with internal and external health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Grade 12 and a 3-Year Hotel School Diploma or equivalent National Qualification.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in housekeeping, with at least 3 years in an Assistant Executive Housekeeping role.

  • Proven experience in hotel housekeeping management.

  • Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of housekeeping procedures, including specialized cleaning techniques and the use of cleaning chemicals and tools.

  • Experience in budget management, cost control, and vendor relationship management.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Opera software.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Proficient in quality assurance, including knowledge of HACCP and FCS standards.

  • Excellent training and coaching abilities, with a passion for developing team members.

  • Sound understanding of financial management and budget control.

  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practices.
