Designer Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Designer at Foschini, where you will play a key role in creating seasonal merchandise, guiding the design process, and ensuring that our products meet customer expectations. This individual will work closely with the production team to bring ranges from initial concept to final manufacture. Designer Key Responsibilities

Design and Concept Development

• Seasonal Merchandise Creation: Design ranges based on global trends, interpreting these trends for our customers while considering the key lessons learned from previous seasons.

• Brand Incorporation: Ensure that all designs align with Foschini’s brand personality and style.

• Key Item Development: Develop key items for the upcoming season, focusing on fabric, styling, silhouette, and price points.

• Trend Monitoring: Continuously monitor sales and design developments throughout the season to ensure products stay relevant to customer demand.

Technical Design and Production

• CAD and Tech Packs: Provide detailed and technical CAD drawings and tech packs to ensure that the designs are executed cost-effectively and in line with brand standards.

• Product Development: Work closely with the buying team to provide trend and product insights, and develop new categories or iterations for existing products.

• Critical Path Management: Oversee the design process, ensuring that patterns, samples, and other requirements are effectively communicated and executed.

Quality and Cost Management

• Cost Control: Ensure that all garments meet customer satisfaction in terms of quality while staying within budget.

• Supplier Collaboration: Work with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure products are produced to specification and meet all required standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

• Tertiary qualification in Fashion Design

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a design role, with a focus on fashion and apparel.

• Manufacturing and Supplier Experience is beneficial.

Skills

• Fashion Design: Strong understanding of garment construction, fabrics, trims, and technical drawing.

• Creative Software: Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe, InDesign, and Microsoft Office.

• Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.

• Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in design and execution.

• Organisation: Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.

• Initiative and Motivation: Able to take initiative and work effectively under pressure.
