Role Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Store Cleaner for their Jeffrey’s Bay location. This is a part-time, fixed-term position, and the individual will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the store, including the shop floor, stock room, dispensary, admin office, and canteen, following Dis-Chem’s high hygienic standards. Key Responsibilities:
As a Store Cleaner, your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain High Hygiene Standards: Ensure that the store, shop floor, stock room, dispensary, admin office, and canteen are kept clean to the highest standards of hygiene.

  • Daily Cleaning Routine: Develop and follow cleaning routines to ensure that all areas are consistently maintained and clean before the store opens and throughout operational hours.

  • Restroom and Canteen Maintenance: Ensure that the canteen and restrooms are cleaned regularly, stocked with necessary supplies, and maintained throughout operational hours.

  • Correct Use of Cleaning Products: Ensure that the correct cleaning products and equipment are used for specific tasks, following all Health and Safety regulations.

  • Floor Safety: Place and ensure visibility of the wet floor sign when cleaning the floors to prevent accidents.

  • Customer Interaction: Provide friendly and professional assistance to customers when needed, contributing to a welcoming store environment.

  • Health and Safety Compliance: Perform all cleaning duties in accordance with Health and Safety regulations to ensure a safe environment for customers and staff.

Qualifications and Experience:
The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Essential:

    • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent secondary school qualification.

    • A minimum of 6 months’ cleaning experience in a professional or retail environment.

    • Basic customer service skills with the ability to assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.

    • Sound command of the English language (written and oral).

    • Willingness and ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.

  • Advantageous:

    • Bilingual with the ability to speak an additional language commonly spoken in the area.

    • Previous retail store cleaning experience.

  • Prior Cleaning Experience: Practical knowledge of maintaining cleanliness in a professional setting.

  • Attention to Detail: Ability to notice and address areas requiring cleaning or maintenance.

  • Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively to complete cleaning tasks efficiently.

  • Presentable: Able to maintain a neat and professional appearance while working.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Willingness and ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.

  • Must be physically fit to perform tasks that involve walking, standing, climbing, kneeling, bending, and lifting objects.

  • Reliable transport and/or residence near the store.

  • South African citizen with a clear credit and criminal record.
