Role Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Fixed Term Store Cleaner for their Hemmingways store in East London, Eastern Cape. This entry-level role is ideal for someone passionate about maintaining a clean and hygienic environment within the store. As a Store Cleaner, you will be responsible for ensuring that the store, including the shop floor, stock room, dispensary, admin office, and canteen, meets Dis-Chem’s high standards of cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Store Cleaner at Dis-Chem, your key responsibilities will include:

• Store and Area Cleaning: Maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the store, including the shop floor, stock room, dispensary, admin office, and canteen.

• Routine Cleaning: Develop and follow cleaning routines to ensure all areas of the store are kept clean and tidy before the store opens and throughout the day.

• Restroom and Canteen Maintenance: Ensure the canteen and restrooms are regularly cleaned and stocked with necessary products, such as soap, toilet paper, and paper towels.

• Customer Assistance: Be available to assist customers when needed, maintaining a professional and approachable demeanor.

• Health and Safety Compliance: Follow health and safety regulations in all cleaning activities. Display wet floor signs and ensure safe practices are followed while cleaning.

• Product Usage: Use the correct cleaning products and equipment for specific tasks to ensure efficiency and safety.

• Store Support: Perform ad-hoc cleaning tasks throughout operational hours, as required by the store manager.

Qualifications and Experience:
To be considered for the Store Cleaner position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Essential:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent secondary school qualification.

  • A minimum of 6 months’ cleaning experience in any setting.

  • Strong command of the English language (both written and spoken).

  • Basic customer service skills.

  • Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.

  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.

• Advantageous:

  • Prior experience in retail store cleaning.

  • Bilingual in an additional language relevant to the area.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following competencies:

• Cleaning Experience: Previous cleaning experience in a retail or commercial setting is highly preferred.
