Role Overview:
Dis-Chem is looking for a Qualified Clinic Sister to join their team in Potchefstroom, North West. As a Clinic Practitioner, you will be responsible for the efficient operation and management of a Primary Health Care Clinic located within a Dis-Chem pharmacy. This role requires a registered nursing practitioner who can oversee patient care, manage clinic operations, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will bring 2-3 years of experience in a similar role and a passion for providing top-quality healthcare to the community. You will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive excellent care while maintaining clinic profitability and meeting operational targets.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Clinic Practitioner, your main duties will include:

  • Clinic Operations Management: Ensure that the clinic is fully operational and open according to its designated hours. This includes overseeing patient care, maintaining stock, managing clinic supplies, and ensuring all clinic equipment is in working order.

  • Patient Care and Services: Provide essential primary healthcare services such as family planning, immunizations, wound care, HIV/AIDS counseling, and emergency care. You will also conduct regular health assessments and follow up with patients as necessary.

  • Health Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient visits and treatments in compliance with regulations. Ensure all medical claims are processed correctly and on time. Keep detailed documentation on patient care and follow-up actions.

  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with patients, medical aids, suppliers, healthcare colleagues, and the community. Communicate effectively with other team members to ensure optimal patient care and clinic operation.

  • Target Achievement: Manage clinic performance to meet monthly targets, including patient numbers and service levels. Be accountable for the financial performance of the clinic, ensuring that resources are efficiently utilized to meet the business’s goals.

  • Training and Development: Stay current with industry trends and regulations through quarterly CPD (Continuing Professional Development) training and in-service training offered by Dis-Chem. Ensure compliance with relevant healthcare standards and legal requirements.

  • Stock Control: Ensure that clinic supplies and medications are well-stocked, properly stored, and available when needed. Report any low stock levels or expired items promptly to management.

  • Clinic Maintenance: Ensure the clinic is clean, organized, and compliant with all health and safety regulations. You will also be responsible for managing the clinic’s equipment, ensuring it is always in optimal condition.

Qualifications and Experience:
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Essential:

    • Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent senior certificate.

    • A tertiary qualification in General Nursing and Midwifery (Degree or Diploma).

    • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).

    • BHF (Board of Healthcare Funders) registration.

    • At least 2-3 years of experience as a practicing Primary Health Care Clinic Sister.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Advantageous:

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Primary Health Care Sister.

    • Familiarity with Patient Record Systems (e.g., CKS, Allegra).

    • Certification in specialized courses such as Baby Immunization, Family Planning, or Primary Health Care courses.

Desired Skills and Competencies:
Successful candidates will possess:

  • Knowledge of Primary Health Care: Understanding of community health nursing, occupational health, family planning, wound care, and pharmacology. Experience with EPI (Immunization) management and STDs is essential.

  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a command of English.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze clinic performance and make data-driven decisions to meet monthly targets.

  • Emotional Intelligence: Ability to manage interpersonal relationships, demonstrate trustworthiness, and be self-motivated.

  • Professionalism: Strong ethical standards, integrity, and commitment to providing the best possible care to patients.
