SPAR’s Phoenix Industrial hub in Durban North is looking for a Technical Services Manager to oversee all technical maintenance and infrastructure responsibilities at the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Distribution Centre. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a team, manage service-level agreements (SLAs), and influence strategic operational improvements in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.
Core Responsibilities of the Technical Services Manager Role:
As the Technical Services Manager, your main objective will be to ensure all facilities, services, and technical equipment within the KZN Distribution Centre are maintained efficiently, comply with safety regulations, and support optimal operational functionality.
Key responsibilities include:

Overseeing preventative and reactive maintenance on all critical equipment and infrastructure.

Supporting DC departments to optimize the utilization of facilities and technical resources.

Managing all service contractors and vendors in line with strict SLAs and implementing corrective actions when needed.

Promoting continuous improvement strategies across facility and equipment management systems.

Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, safety protocols, and internal policies.

Monitoring and controlling maintenance budgets, promoting cost-effectiveness and innovation.

Providing monthly technical reports and maintenance updates.

Driving project execution for upgrades or new installations, offering technical guidance.

Using tools like SAP or similar CMMS systems to track and manage maintenance workflows (advantageous).

Leading and mentoring a team of maintenance personnel, contractors, and suppliers.

Managing green area meetings and KPI scorecards aligned with company strategy.
Qualifications and Experience You Need:
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

A Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.

5+ years of experience in technical services, facilities, or equipment maintenance in a logistics, manufacturing, or FMCG environment.

Proven leadership experience managing both teams and external service providers.

A solid understanding of compliance standards, preventative maintenance plans, and technical safety regulations.

Advanced problem-solving, budgeting, and decision-making capabilities.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, teams, and urgent repairs under pressure.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Valid driver’s license.

Familiarity with SAP or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is a plus.
