Key Responsibilities

As a Shop Assistant, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the store and a top-notch shopping experience for customers. These responsibilities include:

  • Customer Experience: Create a welcoming, inspirational, and personalized shopping environment for all customers. Your interaction with customers will help build loyalty and encourage return visits.

  • Sales and Target Achievement: Drive sales and turnover by motivating and inspiring your team to achieve sales targets. You will be expected to help boost store performance by ensuring that every customer has a positive and memorable experience.

  • Visual Merchandising: Maintain high visual merchandising standards to ensure the store is aesthetically pleasing and appealing to customers. Your creativity will help make the store visually inviting.

  • Store Maintenance: Maintain a clean, tidy, and fully replenished sales floor. You will be responsible for ensuring that products are displayed attractively, and shelves are fully stocked at all times.

  • Stock Control: Effectively manage stock levels, minimizing stock losses and shrinkage. You will ensure products are properly priced with relevant price stickers and signage.

  • Stocktaking: Participate in stocktaking and cycle count activities. You will be responsible for checking variance reports, investigating discrepancies, and escalating any issues related to stock shortages or imbalances to the Area Manager.

  • Operational Procedures: Ensure adherence to point of sale and banking procedures. Any issues should be reported to the Area Manager promptly. You will also be expected to follow store standards, operational policies, and procedures.

  • Operational Efficiency: Ensure the effective execution of all operational activities within the store, from stocking to customer service and payment procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for the role of Shop Assistant, the ideal candidate should meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.

  • Passion for Retail and Cosmetics: A strong interest in cosmetics, retail, and customer service is essential for this role. You should have a genuine enthusiasm for beauty and skincare products.

  • Knowledge of Beauty Products: A good understanding of beauty and skincare products is highly desirable to assist customers effectively.

  • Customer Service Orientation: You must possess excellent customer service skills. Being able to communicate clearly, professionally, and with a friendly attitude is essential to providing an exceptional customer experience.

  • Strong Work Ethic: A hands-on attitude and strong work ethic will be required to keep up with the fast-paced retail environment.

  • Flexibility: You should be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and public holidays, to meet the operational needs of the store.

  • Basic Computer Skills: Proficiency in using email and Microsoft Excel is required to assist with store management and communication.

  • Good Communication Skills: You should have effective communication skills to work well with customers and colleagues.

  • Physical Stamina: The role requires the ability to stand for long periods and stay active throughout the workday.

  • Sales Focus: The ability to create a buzz in your store, motivate your team, and encourage customers to make purchases is essential.
