Job Overview
As a Shift Supervisor Mining, you will report directly to the Senior Shift Supervisor Mining. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee underground operations during your shift, ensuring that production and quality targets are achieved safely and efficiently in line with the client’s expectations and Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) regulations. You will supervise and lead underground crews, engage with stakeholders, ensure risk mitigation, and maintain operational compliance with Murray & Roberts’ high standards of safety and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe execution of underground mining operations in accordance with M&RC and DMR regulations.

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise mining teams to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.

  • Drive cost-effective operational performance and productivity while minimizing delays and maximizing resource utilization.

  • Conduct safety inspections, pre-shift briefings, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.

  • Foster a culture of safety and compliance, ensuring team alignment with MHSA (Mine Health and Safety Act) and SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) standards.

  • Coordinate operational activities with relevant departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless workflow.

  • Maintain accurate shift reports, timekeeping, and material usage logs.

  • Monitor and control equipment, explosives, and material resources to minimize waste and enhance efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 equivalent.

  • Blasting Certificate of Competency.

  • Recognized Shift Supervisor Certificate.

  • Valid Code EB Driver’s License.

  • Valid First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain it during onboarding).

  • Proficient in English, with strong literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Medically fit to work underground (HTS and RFA clearance required).

  • No criminal record.

  • Excellent team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Sound planning, coordination, and monitoring abilities.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an underground mining environment in the capacity of a Miner.

  • Prior exposure or acting experience in a supervisory role is highly advantageous.

  • Demonstrated experience in mining operations such as sinking, development, stoping, and timbering is preferred.

  • Familiarity with mining safety protocols and SHEQ standards.
