Fidelity Services Group is looking for Junior Firefighters to join the team in Johannesburg, Gauteng. In this role, you will be actively involved in firefighting, emergency rescue services, and maintaining firefighting equipment under supervision. This position offers the opportunity to learn and grow in the firefighting field while contributing to the safety and protection of our clients’ properties and lives.

Key Responsibilities

As a Junior Firefighter, you will be expected to:

• Firefighting and Rescue Operations: Respond to fires, rescues, and other emergency situations under the guidance of senior firefighters.

• Hazardous Material Incidents: Respond to and assist with hazardous substance-related incidents.

• Medical Assistance: Provide basic medical care to injured persons and conduct emergency operations as directed by senior staff.

• Equipment Operation: Operate various firefighting equipment, including mobile and fixed breathing apparatus, to manage and extinguish fires.

• Fire Protection: Undertake fire protection duties, using the appropriate equipment to protect lives and property.

• Training Participation: Participate in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training as directed.

• Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance on firefighting equipment and vehicles to ensure readiness.

• Health & Safety: Conduct health and safety inspections to ensure a safe work environment.

• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate computerized logs and records of daily incidents and activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Grade 12 as a minimum qualification.

• Certifications:

  • IFSAC Accreditation

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II Certification

  • Firefighting training with at least 2 years of related experience.

• Licensing: Valid, unendorsed vehicle driver’s license (Advanced driving experience is a plus).

• Physical Fitness: Must be medically and physically fit.

• Hazmat Experience: Knowledge of hazardous materials (Hazmat).

• EMT Certification: Essential, along with First Aid levels 1 to 3.

• Firefighting Knowledge: Understanding of fire prevention procedures, firefighting systems, and the chemistry of fire.

• Clear Criminal Record: Must have a clear criminal record.

Core Competencies

• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Hazmat Knowledge: Solid understanding of hazardous materials and their handling.

• Security Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the security industry’s regulations and the code of conduct.

• Firefighting Instructor Knowledge: Understanding of key elements related to firefighter training and operational applications.
