Job Overview
The Developer role is crucial for the ongoing operations at Mponeng Mine. The successful candidate will report to the Shift Supervisor and will play a vital role in overseeing underground mining activities, focusing on safety, productivity, and adherence to legal requirements. As a Developer, you will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the mining team to achieve production targets, managing materials, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The role will also involve performing hands-on mining tasks and managing resources to optimize output and reduce downtime.

Key Responsibilities
As a Developer at Mponeng Mine, your responsibilities will include:

  • Effective Supervision: Lead and supervise mining crews to ensure safe, efficient production and achievement of daily targets.

  • Planning & Scheduling: Plan and schedule daily activities to ensure resources, equipment, and materials are available to meet production needs.

  • Resource Management: Manage materials, consumables, and explosives to optimize resource use and minimize waste.

  • Operational Excellence: Participate in pre-shift meetings and waiting place briefings to ensure alignment on safety protocols, quality, and production objectives.

  • Underground Operations: Conduct hands-on mining operations such as drilling, blasting, lashing, shaft lining, and equipping according to industry standards and legal requirements.

  • Safety & Compliance: Identify and mitigate risks to comply with DMR regulations and the mine’s internal safety protocols.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth workflows and meet business needs.

Minimum Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Qualifications: Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent, a valid Blasting Certificate, Licence to Supervise or equivalent, and a valid First Aid Certificate.

  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a trackless mechanised underground mining environment, with hands-on knowledge of mining equipment and operations.

  • Skills: Strong leadership abilities, good planning and coordination skills, and the ability to manage underground mining crews effectively.

  • Health & Safety: Medically fit for underground work, including passing the HTS and RFA medical tests.

  • Other Requirements: A valid Code EB driver’s license and a clear criminal record.

Bonus Skills
Additional skills that would be beneficial include:

  • Familiarity with underground mechanised mining operations, including wetcrete application, installation of welded mesh, and spin anchors.

  • Knowledge of mine safety regulations and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team leadership and stakeholder management.
