SDM, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sanlam Life Limited, operates within the entry-level and emerging middle market. SDM provides clients with access to simple and affordable financial products such as life cover, personal accident plans, savings, and funeral insurance. As part of the Sanlam Life and Savings cluster, SDM is managed by the SA Retail Mass business, focusing on client-centric, accessible solutions that meet the financial goals of everyday South Africans.

Job Overview
As a Branch Consultant, you will be responsible for promoting Sanlam’s products in a branch setting by delivering tailored financial advice and building strong relationships with clients. Your goal will be to grow Sanlam’s market share through superior service, client retention, and effective cross-selling of value-added financial solutions. You will act as a trusted advisor, helping clients optimize their portfolios and meet their financial goals with confidence and care.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sales Delivery

  • Develop a deep understanding of Sanlam Retail Mass (SRM) product offerings.

  • Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate, cost-effective solutions.

  • Promote new products and manage client portfolios in response to changes.

  • Submit new business through appropriate channels while ensuring compliance.

  • Conduct risk assessments and due diligence during the onboarding process.

  • Manage appointments and engage walk-in clients effectively.

2. Client Service & Retention

  • Support existing clients by maintaining consistent communication and follow-ups.

  • Implement strategies to reduce NTUs (Not Taken Up clients) and enhance retention.

  • Monitor and improve payment persistency and customer satisfaction.

  • Handle in-branch service requests including policy queries, cancellations, and alternative payment solutions.

  • Resolve client concerns or escalate them through the appropriate channels, ensuring timely follow-up.

3. Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain up-to-date product knowledge and complete all required training.

  • Stay current with compliance and quality standards, including record keeping and risk flagging.

  • Maintain CPD points and regulatory registration requirements.

  • Log daily activities to support accurate reporting and performance monitoring.

4. Reporting & Administration

  • Use Sanlam’s technology platforms to track and report on daily, weekly, and monthly activities.

  • Submit accurate reports and participate in ad-hoc assignments as needed by the Retail Branch Manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12

  • RE5 certification (advantageous)

  • FAIS Compliant (Wealth Management) as per DOFA requirements

  • Class of Business training (must be completed within 12 months of employment)

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Customer service orientation with the ability to build long-term client relationships

  • High levels of accountability and self-motivation

  • Analytical thinking and decision-making ability

  • Ability to plan, align, and work independently

  • Attention to detail and regulatory compliance

  • Experience in financial services and a customer-facing environment will be advantageous
