Job Overview

The Artisan Electrician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground electrical infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring extensive mining experience, particularly working with Epiroc Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM) and power reticulation systems. This position is key to ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of electrical systems across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical installations and ensure systems meet mining and engineering standards.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot underground electrical equipment, including reticulation networks and control systems.

  • Perform scheduled and reactive maintenance on electrical infrastructure, minimizing downtime.

  • Diagnose and repair faults in high- and low-voltage systems, including pilot wire systems.

  • Ensure all electrical work complies with safety regulations and company protocols (SHEQ, M&RC, DMR).

  • Participate in planning and execution of projects to enhance underground power systems.

  • Foster a positive and compliant team culture aligned with company values.

  • Collaborate with the Engineering Foreman and other team members to support operational goals.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification

  • Trade Test Certificate in Electrical (Section 13 or 26D) through a recognized body (e.g. MERSETA, MQA)

  • Certified apprenticeship signed off by the Department of Manpower

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in underground mining (preferably on Epiroc TMM)

  • At least 5 years of practical trade experience as an electrician in mining environments

  • Strong knowledge of underground power reticulation and pilot wire systems

  • Valid First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain during onboarding)

  • Valid Code EB driver’s license

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Medically fit for underground work (including HTS and RFA)

  • Clear criminal record

Desirable Competencies

  • Experience with electrical maintenance in high-pressure mining operations

  • Working knowledge of electrical safety systems and fault-finding procedures

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a results-driven approach
