Job Purpose
RCL Foods is seeking a Code 10 Driver Salesman to join their Baking Business Unit in Kokstad. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the transportation and sales of bread and confectionery products. This involves calling on customers, taking orders, and delivering goods—often for cash and acquiring new customers. The role reports to the Distribution Manager and is a Permanent position.
Code 10 Driver Key Responsibilities
Vehicle and Dress Duties

Maintain a clean vehicle with high hygiene standards.

Wear prescribed PPE clothing and safety equipment.

Ensure that the driving compartment is clean, safe, and in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Perform regular vehicle checks, logging any faults and ensuring repairs are made promptly.

Follow road safety regulations and immediately report any accidents or thefts.
Stock and Loading

Verify that the stock loaded matches customer orders.
-
Report any discrepancies to the Route Controller.

Ensure proper loading and safe transportation of stock.

Inspect the quality of stock and inform customers if substandard goods are being delivered.

Assist with loading when necessary.
Van Assistants
-
Take responsibility for supervising and training the van assistant.

Ensure the van assistant adheres to company standards and maintains a positive customer relationship.

Report performance issues with the van assistant to the Route Controller.
Sales and Customer Interaction

Be friendly, helpful, and respectful toward customers.

Identify opportunities to increase daily sales by engaging with existing and potential customers.

Report customer losses to the supervisor and try to recover lost clients.

Ensure high customer service levels and implement promotions where required.
Delivery Responsibilities

Ensure that stock delivered matches the customer order.

Manage stock levels to ensure all customers on the route receive their orders.

Make arrangements for stock replenishment when needed and ensure all customers are satisfied.

Recover crates and return them to Sunshine Bakery premises.
Transactional Duties
-
Secure cash and documentation, ensuring that all paperwork is accurately completed.

Immediately deposit cash into the vehicle safe and be vigilant about counterfeit notes and fraudulent activities.

Complete cash-ups with the supervisor on return from the route.

Accurate documentation of transactions, including invoices, delivery notes, and vehicle logs.
Competitor Analysis

Gather competitor sales information and report findings.

Collect competitor product information to identify market trends.
General Duties
-
Drivers may be asked to assist with van assistant or loading duties when needed.

Adhere to health and safety standards and report any health issues that could impact driving ability.
Minimum Requirements
Education
-
Grade 12 (Matric).

Valid Driver’s License and PDP.
Experience
-
Minimum 2 years of driving experience in the FMCG sector, specifically in delivering and selling products to customers for cash.
Skills
-
Good numeracy skills.

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
General Requirements

Maintain a valid Driver’s License and PDP.

Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.

Be on standby in case of driver absenteeism.
