We are excited to invite an experienced Artisan: Fitter and Turner to join our Baking Division at the Pretoria West Mill. This opportunity is for a skilled individual who is passionate about mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and working in a dynamic environment. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Foreman, this role is essential in ensuring that our machinery and equipment run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
🎯 Preventative, Corrective, and Reactive Maintenance:

Adhere to established preventative maintenance procedures to avoid mechanical failures.

Take reactive measures when necessary to address urgent maintenance concerns.
-
Proactively raise maintenance concerns and address them within your area of responsibility to maintain optimal equipment functionality.
🎯 Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:

Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs to restore machinery to full functionality.

Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to identify malfunctions and take appropriate corrective actions.

Record all maintenance and repair work done for tracking purposes and future reference.
🎯 Machinery Maintenance & Upkeep:

Regularly clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery to maintain smooth operations.

Assemble, install, and/or repair pipe systems and plumbing, as well as machinery and equipment related to steam and waterlines.

Carry out routine inspections of equipment and machinery to ensure that they are functioning properly and in line with safety standards.
🎯 Training & Mentorship:

Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and artisan assistants, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment.

Lead by example, ensuring the team adheres to safety protocols and high-quality work standards.
🎯 Ad-hoc Assistance:

Assist with other duties as required, contributing to the smooth running of the department and the overall success of operations.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
✅ Fitter and Turner Trade Test certification, or a dual trade qualification with Millwright is preferred.
✅ N3 and above qualifications in relevant technical fields would be an advantage.
✅ Proven successful completion of a formal Institutionalized Training Programme.
✅ A minimum of 5 years’ milling work experience is highly advantageous.
✅ Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
✅ Computer literacy is essential for administrative tasks and reporting.
✅ Basic electrical experience will be an advantage.
✅ Strong prioritization and time management skills, with the ability to balance workload effectively.
✅ Leadership capabilities with the ability to lead oneself and others.
✅ Experience in the milling industry will be considered a distinct advantage.
Fitter and Turner Key Skills & Attributes
🌟 Technical Competence:

Strong knowledge of machinery maintenance, diagnostic techniques, and repair processes.

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment efficiently and accurately.
🌟 Safety & Compliance:

Understand and comply with Food Safety Standards and ensure that maintenance activities are carried out in a safe and compliant manner.

Prior experience in the FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) sector would be an asset, particularly regarding safety and food production standards.

Ability to mentor and train apprentices and artisan assistants effectively.

Clear communication skills to ensure team members understand instructions and safety protocols.
