We are excited to offer four Millwright Apprenticeship opportunities within our Pies Operating Unit in Krugersdorp. If you have a passion for engineering, a drive for hands-on learning, and a desire to build a career in millwrighting, this program is the perfect opportunity for you!
Through this structured apprenticeship program, you will receive practical training and exposure to different sections of our factory while working with experienced industry professionals.
What This Millwright Apprenticeship Offers
🔹 Real-World Exposure: Work in various sections of our factory and gain hands-on experience in millwright operations.
🔹 Structured Training: Complete approximately 29 weeks of on-the-job training, gaining practical skills in mechanical and electrical engineering.
🔹 Mini Trade Tests: Each year of training will be assessed with a Mini Trade Test (Phase Test) to evaluate progress and determine continued participation in the program.
🔹 National Qualification: Successful candidates who pass the final Trade Test will earn a nationally recognized qualification as a certified Millwright.
🔹 Career Growth: Gain technical expertise and industry experience that could open doors to permanent employment opportunities in the engineering field.
Minimum Requirements – Who Can Apply?
To qualify for this apprenticeship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
✅ Grade 12 (Matric) with a minimum of an N2 qualification or NCV Level 3.
✅ N3 qualification or higher is advantageous (N4, N5, or N6 preferred).
✅ Required N3 subjects:

Mathematics

Engineering Science
-
Industrial Electronics
-
Electrical Trade Theory / Electrical Technology / Electrotechnology

Fitting & Machining / Mechanical Technology / Mechanotechnology
✅ Completion of a formal Institutionalized Training Programme is essential.
✅ Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical tools, conveyor belts, bearings, and production line operations.
✅ Understanding of engineering drawings and ability to repair equipment failures.
Key Responsibilities & Learning Areas
🎯 Equipment Maintenance & Repairs:

Gain knowledge in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining structural components of machinery.

Learn to repair failures on equipment to restore functionality.
-
Carry out preventative maintenance to ensure equipment remains in optimal condition.

Assist in performing root cause analysis to prevent recurring failures.
🎯 Technical & Safety Compliance:

Develop an understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation applicable to millwright work.

Ensure that all equipment is made safe before maintenance and that safety procedures are followed.

Complete job cards accurately and report any equipment defects.
🎯 Practical Factory Exposure:

Work on conveyor belts, modular belts, and mechanical/electrical systems used in food manufacturing.

Assist in operating and maintaining production lines and factory machinery.

Learn to interpret and apply complex engineering drawings.
🎯 Work Environment & Expectations:

Be prepared to work shifts, perform standby duties, and work overtime when required.

Work in confined spaces and at heights as necessary.

Assist with routine maintenance inspections and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical faults.
