Job Profile:
Technical experts who perform maintenance, ensuring that Necsa’s plants, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained and repairs are done in accordance with fabricator’s specifications.
Key Performance Areas:
- Obtain quotations and procure parts needed to repair breakdowns and perform scheduled maintenance as received from Section Heads.
- Communicate with clients to keep them informed.
- Maintain plumbing installations for building infrastructure, toilet facilities, plant & laboratory equipment, geysers, hot water boilers, and water supply systems.
- Perform regulatory inspections on water drains and install/maintain water supply systems.
- Repair or replace broken drainage lines, clogged drains, faucets, etc.
- Install waste disposal and sanitary systems with well-functioning DWV systems.
- Complete job cards for tasks assigned and provide feedback on the job status to ensure follow-up or closure of tasks.
- Plan and prioritise jobs based on urgency or critical facilities.
- Delegate minor tasks to assistants.
- Communicate with clients regarding their requests.
- Ensure client and supervisor sign off on completed jobs.
- Submit completed job cards to the planning office.
- Conduct inspections or fault-finding assessments and repair accordingly.
- Draw spares from stores and attend to faults.
- Seek advice if faults are beyond own scope of work.
- Provide inputs for quotations to clients.
- Check the work of junior staff for correctness and safety.
- Perform standby duties after hours when required and be prepared for overtime.
- Comply with SHEQ standards and ensure safety in all tasks.
- Handle environmental safety disposal of materials according to approved waste management policies.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Manage turnaround time for jobs and customer job card ratings.
- Monitor expenditure against the budget.
- Obtain quotations for spare parts and generate purchase/store requisitions.
- Submit completed job cards for capturing and recoveries.
Job Requirements:

Key Knowledge & Skills
- Fault-finding abilities and knowledge of failures and reconditioning.
- Specialized knowledge of maintaining and repairing a variety of plumbing systems, tubing, and water pressure systems.
- Proficiency with plumbing tools and equipment (pipe wrenches, cutters, plungers, etc.).
- Familiarity with safety rules in workshops.
- Good physical condition and strength to work in awkward spaces.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education
- Matric certificate.
- Qualified Artisan trade as a Plumber.
- Valid Authorised Gas Practitioner Certificate/Permit is an advantage.

Experience
- 3 years’ experience in a plumbing maintenance environment.
- Understanding of plumbing systems.
- Knowledge and use of plumbing tools, equipment, and refrigeration gases.
- Knowledge and understanding of maintenance principles.
- Good knowledge of Necsa site, buildings, machinery, and safety equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (advantageous).
