Job Profile:
The main purpose of the job is to contribute to the Necsa research environment and become active in the process of knowledge generation and dissemination in the area of expertise. The role requires a strong focus on development in the area of expertise, and an improved familiarity of the relevant Necsa business processes and SHEQ requirements.
In the RRT/RRA environment, the main purpose of the job is to participate in projects in the field of nuclear reactor physics and radiation transport. This requires knowledge on the appropriate physical models and related computer code systems. An important aspect of this job is to increase knowledge and capability in the areas of reactor analyses and radiation transport. In particular, the focus in this role is performing reactor analysis, shielding, activation, and criticality assessment via computational modelling with appropriate software packages, in order to improve the safety and utilization of operating nuclear facilities.
Key Performance Areas:

Knowledge Dissemination
- Capture research work done in written format; at least as co-author in regular progress reports, annual progress reports, and local conference publications.
- Report research results orally at organizational level (internal colloquium).
- Co-author technical reports.

Human Capital Development (Local and International)
- Train colleagues and students in identified subjects/skills.
- Contribute to research activities as part of a research team with specific responsibilities.
- Take action for own professional development with Necsa support.
- Identify further development opportunities and contribute to the definition of own Master’s level studies.

Contribution to Necsa Business Processes
- Execute research tasks with limited supervision.
- Participate in the creation of know-how that is of commercial and/or strategic value to Necsa.
- Contribute as a researcher in defined projects to improve divisional key performance areas.
- Review internal published work such as technical reports, operating procedures, and processes.

Internal Necsa (SHEQ) and Other Audits
- Participate in activities as required by the Business Process Management System.
- Engage in processes aimed at improving safety, quality, and security.
- Complete all work according to SHEQ requirements under supervision.
- Adhere to SHEQ requirements independently.
- Ensure all activities of a system are integrated and comply with SHEQ requirements.

- Perform work in accordance with project budgets or portions of assigned budget.
- Work in a cost-effective manner, and be cognisant of financial constraints.

Key Knowledge & Skills
- Able to develop and follow research methodologies and protocols.
- Able to analyse complex data sets and interpret results.
- Familiarity with reactor modelling software packages like OSCAR, MCNP, Serpent, SCALE is a bonus.
- Competent with written and oral communication of research findings.

Qualifications and Experience:

Academic
- BSc Honours degree OR B.Eng degree in physics, mathematics, applied mathematics, or a relevant other science or engineering degree.

Minimum Experience Required
- 0 – 2 years of experience in a scientific working environment.
