Job Description:

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join their Hazeldean store. The successful candidate will play a key role in pharmaceutical care, ensuring patients receive high-quality service while complying with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations.


Minimum Requirements:

✔ Grade 12 / Matric
✔ Basic Pharmacist Assistance Qualification
✔ Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
✔ Experience working on Unisolv
✔ Computer Literate (MS Office Suite)
✔ Strong numerical skills
✔ Fluent in English & a second language
✔ Willing & able to work retail hours

🔹 Advantageous:
✅ Retail / FMCG industry knowledge
✅ 3rd Additional Language
✅ Experience in SAP & E-Scripting
✅ Knowledge of Drug, Family Planning & Complementary Medicine


Key Responsibilities:

1. Dispensing & Medication Management

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 & 2 medicines.
  • Compound, manipulate, prepare, and manufacture non-sterile medicine under pharmacist supervision.
  • Re-package and distribute Schedule 1-5 medicines.
  • Order Schedule 6 medicines under an authorized person’s instruction.
  • Read prescriptions, select, compound, label & supply medicines according to legal requirements.
  • Interpret scripts accurately and verify patient details.
  • Ensure proper picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication.
  • Provide patients with correct medication usage instructions.
  • Ensure all medications are double-checked by a pharmacist before dispensing.

2. Customer Service & Support

  • Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication, and front-shop.
  • Follow up on script tracking reports and patient appointments.
  • Explain medical aid costs and assist in claims processing.
  • Handle chronic, HIV/AIDS & oncology medication authorization.
  • Maintain accurate customer profiles on the system.
  • Notify UCS to merge duplicate profiles centrally.

3. Inventory & Stock Control

  • Monitor and report low/out-of-stock items.
  • Receive dispensary stock following Dis-Chem’s SOPs (First Expired, First Out – FEFO).
  • Participate in bi-annual stock takes.
  • Exercise strict stock, cash & asset control.

4. Health & Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to controlled room temperature regulations.
  • Follow security & safety protocols to manage risk stock.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic work environment.
