Job Description:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Pharmacist to join their Ridgeview store. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care, ensuring patient safety, and complying with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations.
Minimum Requirements:
✔ Grade 12 / Matric
✔ BPharm / Equivalent Qualification
✔ Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
✔ 2-3 Years Experience in Pharmaceutical Industry
✔ 2-3 Years Retail Pharmacy Experience (Student/Internship)
✔ Computer Literate (MS Office Suite)
🔹 Advantageous:
✅ Retail / FMCG industry knowledge
✅ Third additional language
✅ Experience in SAP & E-Scripting
✅ Registered Tutor
✅ Unisolv experience
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pharmaceutical Care & Dispensing
- Evaluate patient medicine-related needs, ensuring correct indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy.
- Dispense medicines and scheduled substances as per prescriptions.
- Verify and sign off prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns.
- Advise patients on proper medication use and compliance.
- Provide pharmacist-initiated therapy where applicable.
- Prepare, compound, and supervise medicine manufacturing & packaging.
- Manage purchasing, storing, and distributing medicines and scheduled substances.
- Ensure compliance with Medicines & Pharmacy Act regulations.
2. Customer Service & Patient Support
- Accurately interpret and capture prescriptions on the system.
- Guide patients on dosages, drug interactions, and side effects.
- Stay updated on medical aid claims processes & requirements.
- Assist customers at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front-shop.
- Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments.
- Explain medical aid costs and ensure authorizations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
- Merge and update customer profiles locally and centrally (via Vexall).
3. Inventory & Stock Management
- Monitor and report low/out-of-stock items and errors.
- Ensure accurate stock control processes and compliance with legislation.
- Facilitate bi-annual stock takes and asset control.
- Ensure compliance with stock security, cash handling, and register maintenance.
4. Compliance & Health Regulations
- Maintain high housekeeping standards according to Dis-Chem policies.
- Adhere to health, safety, and security regulations.
- Ensure compliance with Dis-Chem’s policies, SOPs, and uniform guidelines.
