Purpose of the Role
The Trainee Store Manager is responsible for assisting in store operations, achieving sales targets, and delivering excellent customer service. This role provides an opportunity for career growth, with the goal of developing into a full Store Manager position. Duties include stock management, sales promotion, team leadership, and ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales & Customer Service
- Drive and promote sales by ensuring world-class customer service.
- Maintain high store standards, including merchandising, pricing, and stock availability.
- Analyze store sales data and identify opportunities for growth.
2. Inventory & Stock Management
- Assist in stock receiving, stock counts, and managing expiry dates.
- Ensure accurate stock control and minimize losses.
- Maintain optimal stock levels and effective stock rotation.
3. Team Leadership & Performance
- Recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team.
- Build and support a strong company culture based on appreciation and recognition.
- Conduct staff coaching, performance management, and ensure high engagement.
4. Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Oversee store opening and closing procedures, security, and cash management.
- Implement and uphold company policies and operational procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification (a tertiary qualification is an advantage).
Experience: 3-5 years of experience as a Retail Store Manager or Assistant Manager (FMCG retail experience preferred).
License: Valid driver’s license (own vehicle preferred).
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
- Ability to analyze sales data and market trends.
- Strong planning, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
