Purpose of the Role
The Delivery Assistant is responsible for assisting drivers with product deliveries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Duties include obtaining Proof of Delivery (POD) signatures, verifying payments, completing invoice corrections, and supporting the loading and unloading of products.
Key Responsibilities
1. Delivery Support & Customer Service
- Assist the driver in transporting and delivering products safely.
- Present and obtain customer signatures on Proof of Delivery (POD) documents.
- Assist in verifying customer payments (cash/check) and completing invoice corrections.
- Provide courteous and professional customer interaction.
2. Loading, Unloading & Product Handling
- Support the driver in loading and unloading goods according to safety standards.
- Ensure products are handled properly to prevent damage or loss.
- Maintain accurate records of returned or damaged products.
- Safeguard stock while in transit and during overnight routes.
3. Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized delivery vehicle.
- Operate within company safety standards and procedures.
4. Route Navigation & Documentation
- Assist the driver in navigating delivery routes efficiently.
- Maintain accurate and organized delivery records, including invoices and receipts.
- Report any stock discrepancies or issues to the driver or supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
- Experience: At least 2 years in a warehousing or logistics environment (FMCG retail experience preferred).
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Time management and problem-solving abilities.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
