Overview

Glencore is seeking a Hosting Engineer to join their IT Core Services team. This hands-on, DevOps-oriented infrastructure engineer role is focused on driving automation and ensuring operational excellence within the team. The role offers the opportunity to take responsibility for key infrastructure artifacts, contributing significantly to the organization’s infrastructure landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Design & Maintenance: Design, launch, and maintain a secure, scalable Azure cloud infrastructure using tools like Terraform (for setup) and Ansible (for configuration management).
  • CI/CD and Hosting: Manage source code with GitHub, coordinate CI/CD workflows with GitHub Actions, and handle application hosting and containerization with Docker and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
  • Cloud & Release Management: Utilize release management tools such as Octopus Deploy, contribute to infrastructure proposals, and develop standardized patterns for secure deployments and maintenance.
  • Support & Collaboration: Provide support to the operations infrastructure teams, assist with problem resolution, and maintain detailed documentation of cloud procedures.
  • Scripting & Automation: Utilize scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks. Experience with monitoring tools and cloud logging solutions like Azure Monitor and Elastic Search is essential.
  • Cloud Networking & Security: Implement and maintain networking principles like VNETs, subnets, VPNs, and ExpressRoute in cloud environments, and ensure robust security measures.
  • Disaster Recovery & High Availability: Ensure that disaster recovery and high availability strategies are in place for cloud infrastructure.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams to ensure infrastructure solutions are aligned with best practices and the architectural target state.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary Qualification: Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications: Azure Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer certifications are preferred.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience:

    • At least 3 years of experience managing cloud infrastructure (especially in Azure).
    • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
    • Expertise in managing Kubernetes environments.
    • Experience with provisioning and supporting infrastructure in Azure, including services like Azure SQL, Web Apps, App Services, Data Factory, and more.
    • Proficiency with Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure as code.
  • Skills:

    • Strong proficiency in Azure Cloud, GitHub, and GitHub Actions.
    • Expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and related tools.
    • Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
    • Ability to think strategically, perform risk analysis, and drive engineering best practices.
