Introduction
Sasol is seeking two highly skilled SHE Ventilation Senior Specialists to join their team in Secunda. The successful candidates will provide strategic guidance and ensure compliance with legal and other requirements in managing Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene departments. You will be leading teams of specialists across different facilities, optimizing operations, and driving innovation in line with Sasol’s safety, health, and environmental standards.

Purpose of Job
As the SHE Ventilation Senior Specialist, you will manage, coordinate, and control the Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene functions within Sasol Mining. You will provide guidance to ensure effective management and compliance across all operations while fostering continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Enable SME teams through effective communication, including Communication on Progress (COPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and standards.
  • Compliance: Provide guidance on legal and regulatory requirements and ensure strict adherence to policies, standards, and practices.
  • Risk Mitigation: Track and report on progress related to risk mitigating initiatives.
  • Reporting: Oversee the reporting of Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene results to senior management, ensuring clarity and transparency.
  • Innovation: Suggest optimizations for equipment, systems, and processes, and monitor the implementation of best practices across the operations.
  • Customer and Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain positive relationships with mining personnel, customers, and stakeholders. Share information and foster innovation.
  • Training & Development: Identify training needs based on individual performance and promote subject matter expertise within the department.
  • SHE Practices: Apply evidence-based SHE practices and ensure alignment with set standards, contributing to safe operations.
  • Risk Management: Implement Sasol’s risk philosophy and enterprise risk management framework.
  • Workforce Planning: Contribute to workforce planning reports and budgets to optimize staffing and operations. Foster a supportive environment through feedback, coaching, and succession planning.

Formal Education and Experience

  • Education: University Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in SHE, Environmental Engineering, or Occupational Hygiene within a mining or industrial setting.

  • SHE Integration: Ability to integrate SHE practices into business plans and procedures.
  • Training and Development: Experience in SHE professional training and behaviors.
  • Business Insight: Strong business acumen and understanding of operational needs.

  • Human Factors and SHE Culture: In-depth understanding of human factors and SHE culture to optimize workforce engagement.
