Job Purpose

The Fleet Manager will oversee the management and operations of the company’s fleet of vehicles, including trucks, bakkies, tractors, trailers, and front loaders. This role focuses on ensuring the efficient use of the fleet, cost control, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The Fleet Manager will handle the procurement of new vehicles, manage the disposal or sale of old vehicles, and coordinate maintenance schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet Operations: Oversee daily fleet operations to maximise efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Maintenance Management: Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to prevent breakdowns.
  • Cost Control: Monitor and control fleet-related costs, including fuel, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to transport laws, safety regulations, and licensing requirements.
  • Fleet Management Systems: Utilise systems to track fleet performance and recommend technological improvements.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of Fleet Supervisors, Drivers, and Technicians.
  • Safety: Enforce safety protocols and conduct continuous driver training.

Requirements

Education/Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management, logistics, or transportation.
  • Proven experience in managing a large fleet and implementing operational improvements.

Skills

  • Technical:

    • Strong knowledge of fleet management systems and GPS tracking software.
    • Expertise in vehicle maintenance, cost optimisation, and repair coordination.
    • Proficient in data analysis, reporting, and technology-based solutions.
    • In-depth understanding of transport laws and safety regulations.
  • Behavioral:

    • Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.
    • Excellent problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and remain calm under pressure.
    • Results-driven with a focus on efficiency and cost control.
