Position Purpose

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development of an integrated engineering, maintenance, and operations technology strategy aligned with Transnet and TPT’s capital investment and business growth plans.
  • Establish a coordinated approach to engineering, maintenance, and technology management to support operational objectives.
  • Define future technology strategies and business requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, legislation, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of equipment and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Develop a robust technical model for managing mechanical, electrical, and control & instrumentation disciplines.
  • Ensure equipment integrity through sound operating and maintenance practices, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
  • Oversee large-scale, cross-functional business projects.
  • Collaborate with the Capital Projects team for strategic planning and implementation of future operations technologies.
  • Manage suppliers, service providers, and contracts in alignment with performance expectations.
  • Plan and execute engineering development and technology programs.
  • Oversee asset lifecycle management to ensure long-term asset health.
  • Implement effective investment, project, and risk management strategies.
  • Ensure projects meet quality, time, and budget requirements.
  • Align financial allocations and expenditures with TPT’s corporate objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and investment risks.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, develop, mentor, and manage a team of professionals.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education:
    • BSc/BEng or equivalent degree in a related field (mandatory).
    • Professional Engineer registration (mandatory).
    • Postgraduate degree in Business Management or Finance (advantageous).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 15 years in engineering within the private or public sector.
    • At least 7 years in a senior/executive managerial role.
    • Extensive knowledge of engineering operations management.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • High level of trust and integrity in financial handling (National Credit Act compliance).
    • Code 8 driver’s license.
    • Willingness to travel as required.
